Why a $20 gift can mean more than a $200 one

Walk into any gift shop and you'll be steered toward the expensive option. Bigger box, higher price, more 'premium' everything. The quiet message is that spending more proves you care more.

It mostly isn't true — and you already know it. Think of a gift you still remember. Odds are it wasn't the priciest thing you received; it was the one that showed someone actually paid attention to you.

What actually makes a gift land

  • It's personal — it reflects the person, not the price tag.
  • It gets used or seen daily, so the thought keeps showing up.
  • It's honest — no inflated 'luxury' markup you're quietly paying for.

That's the whole idea behind what we make: small, real, useful things at a fair price. A mug you reach for every morning. A journal you actually finish. The opposite of an overpriced thing that impresses for a day and gathers dust after.

Buy the thing that shows you were paying attention — not the thing that shows you spent a lot.

So before the next occasion, skip the upsell. Ask what the person would genuinely use and enjoy, and get them that. It'll cost less and mean more — which is sort of the point.
